ITC-DTI Study on Climate Change and Trade in the Philippines published
Manila, Philippines – The International Trade Centre (ITC) recently published its study on Climate Change and Trade in the Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry and funding of the European Union. The paper, which is the first of its kind, explores challenges presented by trade-related climate measures to Filipino exporters’ market access, how the green trade market can be accessed, and how the Philippines can mobilize trade to boost climate change resilience.

In her foreword, DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque emphasized that sustainability and resilience should underscore the Philippines’ decision-making and policy development. By proposing strategic actions in these three areas, the study is expected to empower the Philippines in participating in—and exploring the opportunities of—the green market, renewable energy, and sustainable and circular business models. In addition to being a flagship study on the potential of the green market to support climate resilience, the study is praised for its contribution to the Philippines’ advancement of both its developmental and sustainability objectives in a time of worsening climate-related risks.
