President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with Dr. Hiroshi Yamakawa, President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), on Friday, June 20, to advance cooperation in space technology between the Philippines and Japan.

The high-level meeting, joined by Philippine Space Agency Deputy Director General for Space and Science and Technology Gay Jane P. Perez and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina A. Roque and, centered on discussions about utilizing space technology to explore new avenues for economic development through space-related initiatives.

"This partnership strengthens our commitment to building a future-ready economy. By advancing our space technology capabilities and connecting Filipino innovators with Japan’s leading space enterprises, we are creating new opportunities for strategic investment, disaster resilience, innovation-led growth, and job opportunities for our people" said DTI Secretary Roque.

With top Philippine exports to Japan already covering products relevant to space-related technologies, such as ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets used in vehicles, aircraft, or ships; digital monolithic integrated circuits; radio navigational aid apparatus; and other electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits, or for making connections to or in electrical circuits, Secretary Roque emphasized the country’s strong potential to supply JAXA with intermediate parts and components essential to its machinery and technological requirements.

"As part of our push under Bagong Pilipinas to develop future-ready industries, we stand ready to support JAXA’s ventures through strong supplier linkages, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and solution-oriented partnerships," Secretary Roque added.
