Bay, Laguna –The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Laguna Provincial Office, in partnership with Card-MRI Development Institute Inc. located in Tranca, Bay, Laguna, successfully conducted a capacity-building seminar aimed at strengthening the capabilities of micro-entrepreneurs in the CALABARZON region on May 21, 2025. The seminar, which drew participation from nearly 100 micro-enterprise owners, focused on key topics including Business Registration, Consumer Education, and the 6S of Good Housekeeping.

This collaborative initiative forms part of the DTI’s continuing efforts to foster sustainable development and growth among micro, small, and medium enterprises, particularly in the food sector, which makes up a significant portion of the region’s entrepreneurial landscape.

The one-day seminar was designed to equip both aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners with the fundamental knowledge necessary to operate and scale a compliant, consumer-oriented, and well-organized enterprise. Participants gained practical insights into the importance of legal business registration, the rights and responsibilities of both businesses and consumers, and the adoption of workplace systems that enhance efficiency and productivity.

Mr. Lawrence Flores, Business Counsellor from Negosyo Center Santa Cruz, led the discussions on Business Registration and Consumer Education, providing a comprehensive overview of the requirements, processes, and legal implications associated with setting up and maintaining a registered business. He also emphasized the vital role of consumer awareness in fostering trust and accountability between businesses and their clientele.

Meanwhile, Ms. Avegail Agojo, Business Counsellor from Negosyo Center Bay, shared her expertise on the 6S of Good Housekeeping—a methodology rooted in Japanese management principles aimed at improving workplace organization, cleanliness, and efficiency. Her session highlighted how the 6S system—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety—can be applied even in small business settings to enhance operations, reduce waste, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

The seminar concluded with an engaging open forum, during which participants raised questions, clarified procedures, and shared personal business experiences. The interactive segment not only encouraged active learning but also provided a platform for networking and peer-to-peer exchange among local entrepreneurs.

Participants expressed their sincere appreciation for the valuable learning opportunity, noting that the seminar provided them with actionable knowledge and tools that they intend to implement in their respective businesses. Many left the event feeling more confident and better equipped to meet the demands of today’s competitive market.
