“Sisters’ journeys are a tapestry of faith, resilience, and grace—a fragrant reminder that perseverance blossoms through every season.” – Helen Keller
Two sisters, Mercy and Margarita Secuya, turned their love for fragrances into the thriving Chardaine Perfumery Shop, a shining example of resilience, passion, and faith. The journey began in 2016 in Angono, Rizal. Inspired by their fascination with perfumes, they started creating blends for personal use. Driven by creativity and determination, they named the brand “Chardaine M Perfume”, inspired by the French word jardin, meaning “garden.”
With just ₱3,000 initial capital, the sisters registered the business with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Angono, Rizal in 2017, beginning a modest operation under the name Chardaine M Perfume & Fashion. During their early years, they produced only 250ml per scent in five fragrance options, selling exclusively to relatives and close friends. They had no physical store, had limited stock, and operated without permits beyond DTI registration. Despite these challenges, they held on to their guiding motto: “There’s always hope, think positive, and in God’s perfect time.”
In 2022, the sisters relocated to Del Pilar, Castillejos, Zambales, where they found new opportunities to grow the business. Encouraged by a neighbor, Margarita visited the Negosyo Center Castillejos on May 28, 2024, and met Negosyo Center (NC) Business Counselor (BC) Jhoana Rosalyn Pona. Through BC Jhoana’s guidance, Margarita learned about DTI programs and services that helped her rebrand and expand their operations. She also registered their business under her name. Mercy, now serving as the manager of the business, continued to focus on overseeing production, logistics, and customer relations, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the shop. Rebranding as Chardaine Perfumery Shop, they embraced a new chapter of growth and innovation.
The rest of 2024 was Chardaine’s exposure to the different trade fairs and events that showcased its products to a broader audience. In July 2024, Chardaine joined the Kadiwa ng Pangulo – Castillejos, gaining new buyers and establishing local roots, and at the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Week Trade Fair at Harbor Point Ayala Mall with the attendance to Product Development and Financial Literacy Training Programs. In November 2024, the DTI Diskwento Caravan at the Castillejos Municipal Park further boosted their product visibility and sales while the Fiesta Haraya 2024 Influencer and Content Creators’ Summit in SM Clark, Pampanga continuously provided modern marketing insights.
By the end of 2024, the transformation of the business was remarkable. Production capacity expanded from 250ml to 1000ml per scent, meeting the growing customer demand. The product line increased from five to eighteen scents, ensuring a diverse selection for the customers. Initial capital increased from P3,000 to an impressive ₱200,000, reflecting financial growth and stability. As a recipient of the 2024 OTOP Next Gen Product Development Program, Chardaine unveiled a new logo, packaging, and labels, showcasing a professional and polished brand image. On November 1, 2024, they celebrated a milestone by opening the Chardaine Perfumery Shop in Fiesta Community Business Shop, Del Pilar, Castillejos, Zambales where customers now enjoy a delightful shopping experience.
On January 17, 2025, Chardaine shared expertise in perfumery with the Castillejos National High School ABMstudents through the school’s Work Immersion Program, providing a hands-on demonstration of perfume making. This opportunity allowed the students to learn directly from the sisters highlighting their commitment to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Mercy and Margarita’s success is a testament to their dedication, passion, and unwavering faith. They credit their achievements to perseverance and believing that success comes at the right time. They share this heartfelt message with other entrepreneurs: “Dapat sa business may passion. If may passion ka, nandun na din ang perseverance. Iyan ang magbibigay ng encouragement sa atin.”
Chardaine’s journey from a small-scale perfume-making venture to a full-fledged perfumery shop serves as an inspiration for anyone dreaming of building something meaningful.
