To enhance the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through environment friendly and climate smart strategies and measures, DTI Region 2 through its Negosyo Center unit, in partnership with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Region 2, conducted the webinar on Green Economic Development (GED) Sensitization: Green My Enterprise in the New Normal for MSMEs, with three runs via Zoom app on 11, 12, and 14 May 2021.

The webinar focused on raising MSME awareness on climate change, its impact on the supply chain and production processes, and how the adoption of greening strategies can minimize the negative impacts on businesses and enhance their competitiveness.

In his message, Assistant Regional Director (RD) Ruben B. Diciano said that the adoption of green practices would not only allow the MSMEs to mitigate the effects of disasters but will also enable them to cut costs through the efficient usage of scarce environmental resources. Further, he emphasized that economic development must be intertwined and harmonized with environmental protection.

“Let us remember that we are all stewards of nature. While nature can exist even without us, we as humans cannot exist without nature and it is incumbent upon everyone to create a healthy environment that will last until the future generations to come,” he said.

This was echoed by Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 2, who encouraged the participants to recycle and avoid activities that cause adverse impact to the environment.

Meanwhile, the officers of RTWPB Region 2 Joseph Francis M. Reyes and Junel B. Soriano discussed the approach to greening the workplace and gave green productivity tips and practices.

In her closing message, Leovilda S. Tumaliuan highlighted the Green Development six strategic pillars; climate change, resource saving and management, circular economy, environmental protection and recovery, water conservation and natural disaster prevention.

“Practicing simple environment friendly practices in your production such as using led lights or solar panels, water conservation, waste segregation and waste disposal, recycling, efficient use of scarce resources, among others, would go a long way in contributing to green economic development” she added.

The three runs conducted were participated by a total of 233 participants composed of MSMEs from the provinces of Cagayan Valley Region. ♦
