24-28 February 2025 — The intensive five-day monitoring and enforcement activity by the Department of Trade and Industry-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB) has resulted in the sealing of a ₱6.8 million worth of non-compliant consumer products in the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela. The activity, dubbed “Project KALASAG,” underscored the DTI’s unwavering commitment to consumer safety and fair-trade practices.

Deploying six teams, the FTEB inspected 542 business establishments across the region. Of these, 230 were identified as retailers of products requiring mandatory Philippine Standards (PS) or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) certifications. On the other hand, 34 business establishments were issued Notices of Violation (NOVs) for failing to comply with these requirements.
“The DTI remains steadfast in its commitment to enforcing fair trade laws and ensuring consumer access to safe and compliant products,” emphasized the enforcement team leader. “Project KALASAG serves as a powerful deterrent, strengthening consumer protection and fostering a culture of business compliance nationwide.”
The confiscated products failed to meet PS and ICC requirements, raising serious concerns about their safety and quality. These certifications show that products have been thoroughly tested and meet safety standards. The absence of these marks suggests potential hazards, jeopardizing the well-being of consumers.
DTI’s action sends a clear message to businesses: compliance with fair trade laws is non-negotiable. The agency urges all businesses to proactively ensure their products meet the necessary standards and obtain the required certifications. Consumers are also encouraged to exercise vigilance when purchasing goods, looking for the PS and ICC marks to ensure product safety and quality. This operation highlights the importance of informed consumer choices and the DTI’s proactive role in safeguarding the public from potentially harmful products.
