Makati, Philippines––Philippine Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque convened with ASEAN Economic Ministers on April 10. This meeting took place in light of the recent development in the US trade policy, prompting them to call the United States to engage in meaningful dialogue with the key trading bloc of ASEAN.

“The United States has been more than a trading partner, it has been one of the top sources of foreign direct investments, and an important partner in ASEAN’s economic architecture.” said Secretary Roque.

The Ministers unanimously agreed that a constructive dialogue with the US is essential to ensure the continued strength of the trade and investment relationship between the two entities.

Looking ahead, as the Philippines prepares to assume the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2026, Secretary Roque reaffirmed the country’s commitment to work with valued partners, including the United States, to identify balanced solutions that support a secure, sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous region.
