On 23 July 2025, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) – Toronto of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto engaged with Pag-IBIG Fund to discuss the initial plans of their initiative to grow the Fund’s investment portfolio in Canada and further drive financial growth and stability.

With the goal of enhancing the value and security of its members’ contributions, Pag-IBIG Fund is actively exploring opportunities to diversify its investments as part of a strategic plan for sustainable development.

The meeting was graced by Board Representative for Private Employees Hon. Gregorio A. Montenegro, Representative for Government Employees Abraham S. Siu, and Assistant Department Manager Atty. Eduardo Labo Jr. They highlighted how Canada presents a strong opportunity for international collaboration.

In line with the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) directive, this initiative aims to strengthen the Fund’s financial base and benefit millions of Filipino members both locally and abroad. As part of this strategy, Pag-IBIG Fund will pilot the plan to diversify its investments, with plans for it to be followed by other government agencies. By engaging international investors, Pag-IBIG Fund seeks to unlock new opportunities that will secure the long-term future of its members and enhance the Fund’s overall performance.

PTIC-Toronto continues to work with the Pag-IBIG Fund board in identifying potential investment partner and opportunities that would lead to more substantive talks that are planned to be held in the latter part of the year. ♦
