DTI-FTEB inspectors conduct compliance checks at a service-related establishment to validate accreditation standards and ensure regulatory compliance

Urging relevant firms to comply with accreditation requirements, the Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has conducted over 81 rounds of inspections.

Led by the FTEB Business Licensing and Accreditation Division (BLAD), the monitoring activities covered 512 service and repair shops (SREs) mostly within Metro Manila, 131 sea freight forwarding (SFF) companies nationwide, and 19 private emission testing centers (PETCs).

During inspection, the onsite monitors validated the submitted documents, audited ratings, checked the availability and functionality of tools, equipment, and facilities through actual testing of machinery, and interviewed the qualified technicians, business owners, or operators in charge.

“Such efforts aim to ensure that enterprises seeking or have secured accreditation meet and maintain the required standards, and are fully compliant with existing regulations. In doing so, we uphold the integrity of regulated industries and protect consumers as aligned with President Marcos Jr.’s ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ agenda,” FTEB Officer-in-Charge Director Marimel D. Porciuncula said.

Any breach of accreditation guidelines will prompt DTI’s issuance of a Notice of Violation (NOV) or Show Cause Order (SCO) to the establishment, which could lead to formal charges and corresponding administrative fines.

As of July 2025, FTEB has conducted onsite monitoring on a total of 662 business firms in various cities and municipalities, including those within Metro Manila, and in the provinces of Cebu, Misamis Oriental, South Cotabato, and Davao City.

In its commitment to enforce accreditation laws, conduct investigations, and raise awareness and compliance with regulatory procedures and requirements, the DTI continues to encourage all covered firms to uphold service excellence, competence, and business integrity by applying for accreditation, licensing, and registration with BLAD.

This is consistent with DTI’s mandate to develop and implement accreditation programs for all covered enterprises, and exercise visitorial powers over the target firms to determine their capacity, qualifications, and overall compliance with the requirements for licensing and accreditation, as stipulated in Memorandum Order Nos. 25-102, 25-103, and 25-1279, as well as Presidential Decree No. 1572, Executive Order 514, Series of 1992, Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, and their relevant Implementing Rules and Regulations. ♦
