DTI officials conduct surprise inspection at Mandaue Public Market in Cebu to ensure fair pricing and product safety as part of the "DTI Goes to the Regions" initiative

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Thursday, August 14, reported a 100 percent compliance rate among vendors at the Mandaue Public Market following a surprise inspection aimed at ensuring fair prices and product safety.

The DTI delegation, as part of the “DTI Goes to the Regions” initiative, found that some basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) were even priced below the suggested retail price (SRP).

This proactive market monitoring is particularly crucial as the city remains under a state of calamity, a measure taken following the impact of the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong.

During the short visit, a random inspection of seven SKUs was conducted to help protect consumers from overpricing and ensure access to affordable goods.

Under the vision of Bagong Pilipinas, the core purpose of the DTI Goes to the Regions is to bring the Department’s flagship programs and services from the national level to regional and provincial stakeholders, extending these efforts down to the grassroots.

DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque also highlighted the alignment of the DTI’s collaborative approach to market stability with the national agenda.

“We are working closely with local government units to guarantee that every Filipino has access to affordable and safe products, paving the way for economic resilience and recovery,” Secretary Roque added.

The DTI Region 7 office, in collaboration with the Mandaue City Local Government Unit, conducts daily market monitoring to ensure consumers’ safety and fair market practices.

The DTI Goes to the Regions program is Secretary Roque’s initiative to strengthen service delivery and foster dialogue with stakeholders nationwide. ♦
