DTI Laguna, in partnership with CMDI, launches its first livelihood training program of 2025 in Bay, Laguna. Micro-entrepreneurs from Southern Tagalog participated in sessions on business compliance, licensing, and the 6S workplace efficiency methodology.

Laguna, Philippines—The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI), launched its first livelihood training program this year in Bay, Laguna on February 19. The program attracted micro-entrepreneurs from across the Southern Tagalog region.

Titled “Business Compliance and Workplace Efficiency: Registration, Licensing, and 6S,” the inaugural session equipped participants with vital skills to enhance their business operations. This initiative underscores the ongoing partnership between the DTI and CMDI to provide comprehensive training and resources to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

CMDI clients participated in sessions covering topics such as the legal procedures for business registration and licensing in the Philippines, with a focus on the advantages of formal business registration, particularly Business Name registration. The seminar also introduced the 6S methodology—Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Set in Order), Seiso (Shine), Seiketsu (Standardize), Shitsuke (Sustain), and Safety—to promote workplace efficiency and safety. Interactive sessions allowed attendees to apply these principles practically within their micro-enterprises.

Resource speakers Ms. Avegail D. Agojo, Negosyo Center Business Counselor in Bay, and Ms. Dianne M. Piamonte, Negosyo Center Business Counselor in Calauan, shared their expertise on navigating the complexities of business compliance.

Implementing the 6S methodology can significantly enhance micro-enterprises by fostering a well-organized and efficient workplace. This approach streamlines operations, cultivates a safer environment, and leads to increased productivity and profitability. Studies have shown that adopting the 6S principles improves workplace safety and efficiency, contributing to overall business success.

Moreover, a structured and orderly workspace positively influences employees’ mental health. As Agojo explained to participants, “Masarap magtrabaho kapag malinis ang paligid. Mas nakaka-motivate.” Research supports this, indicating that a clean and organized environment reduces stress and enhances focus, leading to improved job satisfaction and morale.

This training is the first of many initiatives planned by the DTI and CMDI for 2025, aimed at continuously supporting and uplifting the micro-enterprise sector not only in Laguna but throughout CALABARZON. ♦
