Hong Kong SAR – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines, through its overseas trade and investment office in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Macau SAR, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Hong Kong (PTIC-HK), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture’s Office of the Agriculture Counsellor in Beijing (OAC-Beijing), successfully conducted a business mission to Hong Kong on 30 June 2025 to explore agricultural business (agribusiness) opportunities. 

The business mission was jointly led by Atty. Roberto B. Mabalot, Jr., Vice Consul (Commercial) and Commercial Attaché of PTIC-HK, and Atty. Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness, Marketing, and Consumer Affairs of the Department of Agriculture. 

During the visit, PTIC-HK facilitated a series of engagements with agencies of the Hong Kong SAR Government and key business organizations, alongside market immersion activities conducted on the same day. 

In the morning, the delegation met with officials from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Discussions centered on the availability of Philippine agricultural products in the Hong Kong market, advancements in agricultural technology, and potential promotional strategies. The mission then visited the AFCD’s Premium Vegetable Section and the Environmental Hydroponic Research and Development Centre (EHRDC) to gain insights into the wholesale trade of agricultural products and to observe the latest hydroponic farming technologies in use.

Subsequently, the business mission visited Wellcome, Hong Kong’s largest supermarket chain, and the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Wholesale Market to gain insights into the local distribution network for agricultural products.

In the afternoon, the business mission visited the headquarters of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), where they were welcomed by HKPC Chairman Mr. Sunny Tan, who also serves as a member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR. The delegation was given a guided tour of HKPC’s facilities, showcasing various research and development initiatives in agriculture and fisheries aimed at enhancing productivity and providing integrated support across the entire value chain.
